SME 038 Scholarships

SME's Grand Rapids Chapter 38 scholarship is dedicated to the education of future manufacturing professionals in west Michigan who are either (1) graduating from high school or (2) a current college/university student. The scholarship provides students ­­­in the west Michigan area with a cash award ranging from $250 to $1,000 to pursue their education in fields related to manufacturing. 

Applicants should be students currently admitted to or enrolled in a manufacturing related discipline at Grand Valley State University, Ferris State University, or Grand Rapids Community College.

Applications must be submitted by April 1, 2017.

Please complete the information below using MS Word or a compatible word processor program. The Scholarship Committee will use this information in awarding scholarships. You may submit your completed application by email to with the words “SME Scholarship Application” in the subject line. Attach a copy of your HS or College transcript to your application.


Attach a typed essay written about yourself and your interest in manufacturing to your email submission. Help the Scholarship Committee understand your uniqueness and see you as a person, as a student and as a future member of the manufacturing profession. To accomplish this, it would be best if you wrote the essay in the first person. Address any special needs or challenges that you may have that could be assisted by receiving this scholarship award. Remember that the committee will read many essays, and you must make them understand why you should receive a scholarship. Your essay will weigh heavily in their decision.
