    Nowadays, using nanotechnology in science and industry improves yield of the different processes. Changing factors in the manufacturing environment and recent development in nanotechnology opened a new area for activating technological potential of nano-fluids. Nanotechnology can be used in MWF to take the advantage of the thermos-physical and tribo-chemical properties of nano-fluids. Nano-fluids should be optimized for increasing the thermal conductivity factor while reducing the friction between moving surfaces in order to change the dynamics of metal cutting.

    Tool-X is a new nanotechnology that changes the characteristics of existing metal working fluids. Throughout the history of cutting tools for turning, drilling, reaming, broaching, et al, the determination of machining parameters has been based on the belief that friction and high cutting temperature can be dealt with efficiently by coolants but the reality is that coolants do not get the job done. Tool-X changes this paradigm. Tool-X, taking a military grade nano-fluid and suspending it in an oil or water base carrier is what a nano-fluid is. It represents a change so dramatic that historical calculations for speeds and feeds and the resulting metal removal rates require rethinking. And at the same time, the reality that surface finishes can be improved, and tool life extended. The advantages to the end user are double the tool life and increase speeds and feeds.

    The EMAP System, for example, one of Promess’ signature assembly systems, combines a precision ball screw, which has a built-in design factor of 2.5 dynamic screw capacity to press capacity, an internal strain-gauge load cell for high force accuracy, and a precision encoder for servo-controlled motion and high positional accuracy. The entire system is controlled by, and outcomes are monitored and gauged by, either the MotionPRO controller and its associated software, or, where coordinated multi-axis control is required, the new Promess UltraPRO. All of Promess’ product lines, including EMAP, TorquePRO and REMAP (which combines positioning, press force, and rotational motion/torque in a single unit), operate on the principles of in-process monitoring, closed-loop feedback, and actionable data.
