I hope all of you had a great summer and are ready for some great SME meetings and tours in the months to come.
In May we met at RCS Millwork south of Ankeny. Founded in 1966 RCS has added a second location in Kansas City to serve the millwork needs of all kinds of public buildings from financial institutions and athletic facilities to churches, retail outlets and healthcare buildings. Dan Keller, the owner of RCS personally gave us a tour showing us how they use AutoCad and modern CNC equipment to precisely design and build the parts and assemblies to fulfill the vision of the Architects and builders. We were impressed with their dedication to quality and safety in building the reception areas, paneling, shelving, entry-ways, etc. He gave us good perspective of how their methods and practices have changed over the years to provide more consistent results in a more efficient way.
RCS takes control of many of the aspects of the process from design to delivery to make sure that the correct items get to the right job-site in an undamaged condition. Our thanks to Dan Keller for taking the time to show us the RCS facility and candidly answer all our questions.
Now we are looking forward to our September joint meeting with the ISU Student Chapter. The students have arranged a tour of the Dee Zee Manufacturing powder coat operation on Wednesday, September 27th at 6:45pm with dinner to follow.
