Haakon Industries, a Richmond, BC, Canada company hosted 20 plus SME248 attendees to the first Plant Tour of 2012 on Wednesday evening. While the region's first significant snowfall prevented many from making the trek to Cheney, those who did make it were treated to a 2-hour informative tour within the confines of a company that is bursting at the seams. http://www.haakon.com/

SME248 held it's 2011 End-of-the-year dinner at Conley’s Place in the Spokane Valley on December 21st. Chairman Jim McCall discussed the highlights of our year prior to the swearing in of new officers.

Hanson Worldwide in Spokane was the location for SME 248's May Tour of manufacturing facilities in the region. Chris Wood, President at Hanson Worldwide was the host for this two hour event. Hanson Worldwide is a heavy duty machinery manufacturing firm producting designs and products for the ag, construction, mining, oil, aerospace, energy and process (paper & pulp, refinery, smelters, biomass) industries.
We are SME. Manufacturers will be the ones who will solve many of our society's challenges going forward: clean energy, efficient transportation, a secure nation, and a stable economy.

Rodney Grover, the Senior Development officer of the SME Education Foundation recently announced the Foundations support for the EDGE FACTOR, a program designed to increase the awareness among young people of the importance of manufacturing, and the fact that manufacturing can be "cool".
