Chapter 22 - 80th Anniversary Event - Looking Back Toward the Future - Celebrating Manufacturing in South Central Pennsylvania
Looking Back Toward the Future
SME York Chapter 22 is celebrating our 80th anniversary in conjunction with October being Manufacturing Month. A national event highlighting the value of manufacturing to the U.S. economy and its opportunities to provide, highly skilled careers. Manufacturers across the nation will open their doors to the public to host open houses, public tours and career workshops.
We would like to invite you to “Celebrate Manufacturing in South Central Pennsylvania” as we take this opportunity of “Looking Back Toward the Future”.
We have two exciting speakers:
About Terrence “Dutchie” Downs
Terrence Downs is a Creative Community & History Broker in York history. Focused on promoting York’s vast historic, artistic and cultural assets, Terry serves the Wm. C. Goodridge Freedom Center publicity board, adviser to Springettsbury Township Historic Preservation Committee, and member to York County Planning Commission’s Heritage Advisory Committee.
Celebrating 30 years marriage to wife Christine and father of two teenage Daughters, “Dutchie” currently works on the historic aspects re-branding York’s Routes 462 & US 30 to former “Lincoln Highway” recognition. A strong interest to 19th & 20th Century stained glass artisan, John Horace Rudy, whose works fill many churches, public buildings and private homes regionally, as well ongoing research to preparation of writing a second book on S. Morgan Smith – highlighting the efforts this York Industrialist family and its heirs have given to engineering works.
About John McElligott
John McElligott is the Chief Executive Officer of York Exponential, President of The Fortress Initiative, and the CEO of The Fortress Academy. John’s primary passion has been focused on the rise of Third Tier Cities and Embracing Disruption: the importance of connecting innovation, technology and community.
Known as a Technology Futurist and Vision Caster, John believes that emerging technology represents an incredible opportunity for all citizens, and that it is his responsibility to do what he can to expose all to robotics and other technology in an effort to leave no community behind.
A sought-out national speaker on the impact of exponential technology, robotics and artificial intelligence, John founded York Exponential in 2015 as a collaborative robotics company. Having humans and robots working together, York Exponential aims to Augment America by Empowering America’s Workforce through the use of technology. Not automation; but rather augmentation, to build solid middle class jobs and democratize robots and robotic technology for all. Shortly following the launch of York Exponential, John also founded The Fortress Initiative and The Fortress Academy, the first robotics and artificial licensed school in the state of Pennsylvania.
Previously, John founded and served as CEO to two tech startups and was a graduate of the Benjamin Franklin Technology Partners “Techcelerator” Program, with his company being the only graduate from that cohort to receive investment funding.
Coming in 2019, John also leads The York Plan 2.0 Innovation District project, a proposed 250,000 sq.ft. robotics and technology campus to be built in downtown York, PA. This facility’s vision is to be the centerpiece in the rise of York, Pennsylvania as “The MECH-Ecosystem Capital of the United States.”
