About SME High School Mentor Program

The SME High School Mentor program connects high school students and professionals members to help the mentee achieve their personal, educational and professional development goals. It is a partnership through which mentors share their knowledge, skills, information and perspective to foster the growth of their high school student mentees. High school students once enrolled in the program can search the  database to find a mentor with whom they would like to connect. Participate in discussion forums on mentoring topics in the high school community and find helpful mentoring resources.

Mentor Criteria

  • You must be an SME member Join Today
  • Simply download and complete the Mentor Application.  Once completed, return your application via email to membership@sme.org.
  • A willingness to share your time, talent, expertise and experiences 
  • You can be a postsecondary student, educator, manufacturing professional, consultant or a specialist
  • Willingness to make a short-term commitment (up to six months) to the mentee with at least one-hour meetings per month 
  • Completion of the Mentor Program progress form after each monthly meeting and post-program surveys and/or interviews
  • Be available to by phone and/or email throughout the months that you have committed

Mentee Criteria

  • You must be an SME member: Simply fill out both the SME membership and mentee applications, including parental/guardian signatures, and submit them together via email to membership@sme.org
  • You are an achiever seeking developmental advancement through opportunities to learn
  • A dedicated individual willing to learn and gain knowledge about manufacturing and/or education that can lead to a career in manufacturing
  • Willingness to make up to a six-month commitment, to your mentor, with at least one hour per month of meetings
  • Completion of the Mentor Program progress form after each monthly meeting and post-program surveys and/or interviews
