About SME Professional Mentor Program 

The SME Mentor program connects SME members in a mentor/mentee relationship to help achieve personal, education and professional development goals.

It is a partnership through which mentors share knowledge, skills, information and perspective to nurture the objectives of the mentee. Download Brochure

Mentor Program Principles  Mentor

  • You must be an SME member — Join Today

  • Have a willingness to share your time, talent, education, expertise and experiences

  • You can be a mentor, if you are over the age of 18 years

  • Willingness to make a short-term commitment (up to six months) to the mentee with at least one-hour meetings per month

  • Completion of the SME Mentor Program progress surveys and the post-program survey

  • Be available by phone and/or email in the months for which you have committed to be a mentor to the mentee

  • Optional: Provide a testimonial about your experience

  • You must be an SME member  Join Today

  • You are an achiever seeking developmental advancements and opportunities to learn

  • You can be a mentee if you are over the age of 18 years

  • You can be a professional who is interested in learning more about manufacturing, an industry or technology 

  • A desire to learn best practices and/or steps to get you into a management position

  • A dedicated individual who wishes to gain knowledge about manufacturing and/or education topics 

  • Make up to a six-month commitment by attending at least one meeting per month for one hour (can be virtual or face-to-face)

  • Completion of the SME Mentor Program progress surveys and the post-program survey

  • Optional: Provide a testimonial about your experience

FAQs

  • How much of my time will this really take?
    It will require a minimum of one hour a month for up to a six-month period.
  • How do I know if I’m qualified to be a mentor?
    There are no qualifications to be a mentor other than SME membership; however, you must have a willingness to dedicate time, commitment to the relationship, communicate, share and engage in the development, goal achievement and education of the mentee.
  • Do I have to be a student to be a mentee? 
    No, a professional member can actually participate as a mentee or mentor or both depending on what you wish to achieve.
  • How do I find a mentor/mentee? 
    Once enrolled in the program, you will be provided instructions on how to setup your profile. After your profile is setup, you can begin searching for a mentor and/or mentee by researching profiles. Once you find a potential mentor/mentee, you can connect immediately.
