As we all adjust to the new normal of the "post  data breach" world, there is a growing realization that we cannot entrust our futures to the marketeers at the center of the information space.  There are a series of practical steps that will put individuals back in control of their data and identity.  This talk will cover some of the most egregious unintended consequences of traditional security and provide guidelines for a less expensive and more effective alternative.  It also covers the pros and cons of large scale regulatory efforts being put in place on other continents and how these approaches could be adapted here in the US.   The talk ends with a  technical overview of  ongoing projects which have the capability to transform the security and privacy role of the most commonly owned technology.

Bio of Speaker:
Aidan Herbert has a worked in several of the key areas of identity and security space, including: Enterprise IAM, Enterprise data protection, Trusted Computing,   Mobile network operator authentication, Cyber security, Web fraud prevention, card based payments security and eCommerce. Aidan is currently working at Walmart Labs in charge of identity and authentication, prior to this he worked on the next generation of security for card based payments and before that he participated in NSTIC (National strategy for trusted identities in cyberspace).  He has also worked with the major PC manufacturers in the Trusted computing Group (TCG).  This wide and detailed set of experiences has provided Mr. Herbert with a unique perspective  on  the roles that privacy, security and identity must plan in the accelerating digital transformation of society.
