National Career Development Summit – Sept. 12, in Washington, DC

Published
The Coalition for Career Development will host a National Career Development Summit in Washington, DC, on Sept. 12, and we invite those interested in the topic attend or send a representative to this important event. Education, business and government leaders from across the country will convene at this summit to design a plan that will make career readiness a priority in America’s education system. Jeannine Kunz, our vice president of Tooling U-SME, will be one of the speakers discussing actions stakeholders should take to prepare the next-generation manufacturing workforce.

Soaring college debt, the deepening skills gap, high college dropout rates and an acute shortage of career counselors are all issues of direct interest to SME. So, finding solutions to address these national challenges is critical if we genuinely want to sustain a thriving manufacturing sector.

As a participant of the National Career Development Summit, you will have an opportunity to provide feedback about developing a comprehensive, nationwide action plan to achieve the CCD’s vision: providing all learners with high-quality career development.

The CCD is an industry-led, broad coalition of national organizations that work collaboratively with education, business, government and nonprofit organizations to create a national movement dedicated to helping all learners become career literate and career ready. SME played an active leadership role in founding the CCD when the coalition collaborated on the 2015 white paper Transforming Career Counseling. Through our continued efforts with the CCD, a key initiative proposed in the white paper — the School Career Development Advisor training and certification program — has come to fruition and will be introduced at the summit.

We look forward to seeing you or a representative of your organization at the summit, so we can help more young people achieve the American Dream!
