Autonomous snowplows go to work at Norwegian airport
Autonomous vehicles are plowing ahead with the first driverless snowplow to clear the tarmac at an operating airport. Two of the Yeti snowplows, developed by Swedish company Semcon, were deployed this week at Norway's Fagernes Airport and managed to clear about 670 football fields per hour in a variety of weather conditions.

Researchers create new type of glass
A new type of glass made for the first time from metal and two organic compounds has the advantage of much greater pliability than glass made from silica. An international research team is still exploring the qualities of the zinc-based glass, which succeeds in recreating the smooth, non-crystalline structure of the glass we're all familiar with.

Researchers create phone case that can measure blood pressure
Researchers used 3D printing technology to create a phone case with optical and force sensors that can measure blood pressure with the touch of a finger and send the information to an app, according to a study in the journal Science Translational Medicine. The sensors use the pressure on an artery in the finger in the same way a blood pressure cuff puts pressure on an artery in the arm.

Strategic car spacing could ease phantom traffic jams
Phantom traffic jams are likely caused by a slowing action that passes backward from one slowing car to the next like a wave because vehicles are following each other too closely. Scientists say the problem could be eased by using bilateral control, or spacing cars an equal distance apart, according to a study published in IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems.
