Hi Ravi,

I started getting notifications about this forum very recently, and thanks for brainstorming ideas for a better chapter 26.

My 2 cents are :
  • Start developing a base of students and early career entrant, including mentoring, training and free membership to our community
  • The sponsors who support us can advertise about our SME Chapter, this includes a review from SME on the quality of their products and what we found special of what they do. For example, if we visit landing gear manufacturer we benchmark them with others in similar industries and start providing expert opinions
  • Have a more aggressive marketing with weekly emails full of events. I know this can become tedious but can be simplified with bulk emails.
  • If we have already set our strategy for the year, it is better to be documented for better organization of efforts and minimize duplication.
  • A tie-up with similar organizations, We may explore some partnerships
Thanks again for your effort Ravi, looking forward to seeing you and all the great people of SME next event.

Regards,
Ismail

I’ll admit, I did an ‘unseemly’ thing in a moment of weakness. I was brought to that point due to frustration with this software. PROBLEM RECAP: I could not find the ‘Create Event’ button I was looking for, having used it previously. I looked at both ‘Event’ menus; the upper-ribbon one pointing to global SME events I could not add to; and the lower-ribbon one pointing to a single ‘Past Events’. In neither case, could I find the ‘Create Event’ button I was looking for.

So, I griped, in this thread, as if wishing on a cloud blowing in the wind, but with considerably more negativity. For that I’m sorry.

I should have taken a more constructive approach.

Within the hour, I regained my cool, and did something purposeful. I wrote an email to Dianna Helka complaining about my difficulty. Within a very brief period of time, Dianna got back to me via email; ultimately resolving my issue. (Apparently, I was no longer recognized as a member; even though I was able to log-in to both SME.org and ‘SME Connect’ – Including the admin pages for the Chapter’s main page. This is doubly disconcerting, since I recently ‘re-upped’ for another two years, which only begin this coming October.)

After logging-in; and then waiting overnight or so – the problem vanished. I can now see the ‘ADD EVENT’ button (I should have been looking for).

Additionally, Dianna advised that the ‘Admin Instruction Guide’ is here http://connect.sme.org/files/1003

I did look for something of this sort but could not find it in any of the search boxes I tried.

NB: The hyperlink only works when logged-in, and if you copy-paste it into the address bar. Browser-click-throughs may fail to load the page correctly.

A dozen views now, and no replies. That's disappointing, I've gotta say.

Another thing that's disappointing is that things seem to change inexplicably over time, and there is no documentation or user guide to help figure out what's going on or how things should be done.

Case in point: I remember easily setting-up events in months past not long ago. Now, for the life of me, I cannot figure out where the 'Create Event' button is. I have to conclude that it's been excluded from my roster of permissions. This is only a guess, of course, because I've received no notification, no user guides or system documentation -- no nothing RE: "SME Connect".

If you can instruct on how to create an event here on SME Connect for SME Toronto Chapter 26, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance for your considered attention to this matter (I hope).
