Friday, 10/5/2018 was the Manufacturing Day Open House and Celebration at Cal State Fullerton. The day was facilitated by Engineering and Technology Students and club members. The school has its own SME Student Chapter, sponsored by SME Chapter 233. Angie and Dave Rosenfield, Gary Pangelina, Manny Parras and 30 plus of his students from John Glenn High School were on hand to enjoy a morning of lab tours and discussion and finally lunch.
CSUF has very well equipped machine shop and fabrication center, a 3D printing lab, a special projects lab where their student projects are designed and built such as their version of a lunar Rover, now in its umpteenth revision. The students were broken up into groups of 6 or 7 and were given up close and personal looks at the labs by CSUF student tour leaders. The high school students were engaged and grateful for the opportunity to see what will be available to them when they graduate from High School.
From the writer’s perspective, this was a well planned, thought out and executed presentation. Dr. Sagil James, PhD, is the department head and host of this program. Well done, Dr James and students.
