In the last few days I have learned a lot about medical PPE.

Gowns and Coveralls:
  • Patterns can be cut on:
    • Clicker dies
    • Gerber (computerized pattern cutter)
    • Manual pattern cutting machine
  • Sewing:
    • Serger machines
    • Home and industrial machines with a serger stitch option
Face Shields:
  • Clear shield:
    • Can be cut out on Gerber machine
    • Can be cut with clicker dies
    • Can be cut on a water jet
  • Headgear
    • Can be fabricated on 3D printers
    • Can be injection molded
    • Using foam prevents the headgear from being cleaned for re-use.
Hope some of this helps those looking into these processes.

ASTM is providing no-cost access to their standards for PPE.

You must register if you are a new user to their reading room, then you can access and download standards
