Nashville Chapter 43 Supports Student Chapter To Promote SME Membership

I recently had the pleasure of giving a presentation (please click here to view my presentation) to students at the Tennessee College of Applied Technology campus in Hartsville and in Lebanon.  We had over 100 students and faculty in attendance across both locations.
 

• My background in manufacturing
• Information on ZF Commercial Steering and its products, as well as how the company is facing a skilled workforce shortage
• Statistics on manufacturing and careers
• An overview of Nashville Chapter 43, including scholarship and various activities (tours, etc.)
• Benefits of joining SME and participating in a chapter

I even challenged the students by highlighting the following:

• Engage in the Community
• Promote Manufacturing
• Continuously Improve
• Have Fun

In the end, because of this interaction, I’m proud to say that SME’s Tennessee College of Applied Technology Hartsville S369 student chapter increased its membership by 16 members — it now has 39 student members. This is a great example of what can be accomplished when a professional chapter is able to meet and interact with students as well as illustrate what’s possible now and once they graduate.

A big thank you to Logan Carter, student chapter chair, and Samantha Alexander, chair-elect, as well as Faculty Advisor William Butrum, who were instrumental to the success of this event.
