What does Lean certification mean to you?
As I'm finishing up my bronze portfolio, I've been thinking about what being certified means to me. I want to be a leader in my field and have the prestige of being certified by an Alliance with partners who set the standard for continual improvement and excellence in manufacturing. To have book knowledge of lean is one thing, to have tactical and applicable knowledge of lean is another. I not only wanted to understand the tools of lean but to see how I've applied them throughout my career and can continually build on that foundation for future endeavors.
Lean Bronze Certification means I've proved my tactical knowledge through application as well as a review by my peers- I want to be part of that elite group of certified lean practitioners 😊

Thanks for asking Pat.  I am writing for the entry-level Bronze.
Greg,

What level portfolio are you writing?  I can give you some tips if I know what level you are working toward.

Regards,
Pat
I am working on my Lean Portfolio as well and am open to any suggestions.
I have recently earned Lean Bronze certification and found the experience rewarding.  I am a long-time practitioner and learner of Lean and Demand Flow theory and application.  I found the certification program created a strong foundation and covered the broad breath of knowledge need to ground individuals in lean.  Certification gave me instant recognition and credentials, that I believe will help open doors for the future opportunities. Thank you SME/AME/Shingo.

Justice, I did the Lean Bronze 10 years ago and it really has met my expectations and will meet yours. I'm sure you'll be successful. And I concur in that I haven't met many other Lean practitioners, and no one in my circles who has this certification. To get the certification you have to really understand Lean quite a bit, and as others have mentioned, be well set on the journey. The certification consolidates your knowledge and boosts your confidence and in my case has borught me a lot of work place joy.
Hi Jodi,
As you know, I'm also working on finishing my Bronze Certification application.  For me certification provides a development path and independent validation of my work because I don't work in an industry or company where Lean is well understood or practiced such that I can find mentors and development activities within my company.  I'm excited for this new community!  To be honest, it has been a bit dispiriting not to find more Lean practioners within the SME chapters I've visited or not finding opportunities for learning outside of the workshops and conferences.  If I'm successful with my certification (and even if I'm not), I hope I can help others in a similar situation to me be successful in pursuing a Lean journey even when it isn't a part of their current organization.

Exactly Calvin! and I agree Dean- its is a journey. I truly enjoy hearing others experiences and learning new ways to use lean.
I recently received my Bronze certification and it did feel like a validation of what I've learned and applied over the years. The most impactful part of the certification was the training and sharing with fellow practitioners and understanding the similarities and differences we have encountered based on our industries, company cultures and where a particular facility or group is on their Journey. The ongoing sharing and learning means a lot.
I have always been fond of the term “Lean Journey“. I think it’s because of the image it conjures up in our minds.
First, it’s a journey, not a destination. We continuously work to improve. There’s always another challenge to be met.
Second, everyone travels their own path and no two are alike. We all work on finding new ways to apply our craft, and that’s what makes our travel different.
Lastly certification is a level of accomplishment recognized as an achievement. In the same way as in martial arts there are many belts before getting to black belt and that recognition is a huge accomplishment. However, once you arrive there you realize you have so much more to learn and there are more levels to accomplish.
Don’t be satisfied! Set yourself apart!
