SME joins Columbus AWS as part of Columbus Technical Society
Powerful hand-held lasers are finally a reality!
Since we were kids, everybody has wanted a laser with enough power to melt metal and small enough to hold in their hand. It's a good thing that we've grown up and no longer want to slice our enemies in half. Hand-held laser welding is high quality, faster than many arc processes, and incorporates the adaptive skill of a human for one-off and small volume production. This meeting will include dinner, presentation, and live demos. The demo will be repeated for small groups so everyone will be able to see clearly.
Jointly presented by Kevin Arnold and Joe Roy of IPG Photonics.
Kevin Arnold graduated with a degree in Welding Engineering from The Ohio State University in 1986. In 2012 Kevin joined IPG Photonics as a Regional Sales Manager for the Midwest.
Joseph Roy has dual degrees from Springfield Technical Community College in the fields of Laser-Electro Optics and Physical Chemistry. After a long and successful career as the C.E.O. of a museum restoration company, Joe began work at IPG Photonics in the winter of 2015 and is now a Product Engineering Specialist for the Lightweld 1500 handheld laser welding system.
