About this event
This month's presentation will be on topics related to inspection, non-destructive testing, and methods related to this very important topic in manufacturing related to the automotive industry:
Â
In this technical presentation, we will learn about:
Â
Â
- Introduction to nondestructive evaluation (NDE)
Â
- Various NDE techniques: ultrasound, thermography, X-Ray CT, etc.
Â
- Inline and post-manufacturing inspection systems
Â
- Applications in automotive manufacturing
Â
- Research opportunities in NDE
Â
Â
We are proud to have one of the chapter members present to us!
About the presenter:
Dr. Megan McGovern is a Senior Researcher in the Manufacturing Systems Research Lab at General Motors Global Research and Development. She joined General Motors in 2016, during which time she has applied her nondestructive evaluation skillset to provide manufacturing solutions to internal customers. She leads research projects to develop inline and post-manufacturing inspection systems which are crucial for a first-time quality, especially in low-volume applications where launches are fast and highly customized. She draws from her expertise in several non-destructive techniques, including ultrasound, thermography, X-Ray CT, and laser ultrasound to develop new techniques and implement the right solution.
Â
Megan received her Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctorate degrees in Systems Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She is also a licensed Professional Engineer in Michigan. She joined SME in 2016. Being a part of SME has provided her with invaluable networking opportunities and technical resources.
