The Tristate area's largest hands-on engineering-sponsored event for High School and Middle School Students.
Two thousand young students wandering through White Plains High School’s two gyms with their parents, wondering: What is engineering, why should I make it my career, and how do I know I will be good at it and happy doing it?
What is at the Engineering Expo? And why should I care? High school students will find much to explore and information to take in. Many engineering companies show and explain their areas of expertise and the career opportunities they offer. Many engineering schools talk about their curriculum, entrance requirements, and how their graduates do in the job market. Various professional societies explain their engineering specialty, their workday, and the kind of person that might find it an interesting career area.
At this point, you fall into one of three areas:
• You are a parent of a high school or middle school child showing an interest in STEM or engineering.
• You are an SME member working for a company making a product used by people or industry.
• You see a chaotic mess of people wandering around. If so, you probably haven’t read this far, so we can assume you are in the first two categories.
If you are an SME member working for a company making a product:
WE WANT YOU. Bring samples of your product and explain to young students how it is made. Most people have no idea how the things they use every day are made.
If you are a parent, bring your children to the Expo so they can get a first-hand idea of what engineering is and see many engineers talking about what they do. They can ask questions that will help them generate career ideas.
