According to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, high schools in America are considered to be obsolete in todayās world.Ā Schools are misaligned with employers in our constantly changing world as evidenced by millennials graduating from college in record numbers, while many remain unemployed/underemployed.Ā Ā At the same time, 7.5 million jobs remain unfilled before the pandemic, which leaves US businesses at a disadvantage globally. As the schoolsā ācustomer,ā many businesses are taking an active role in working with the schools to provide learning experiences for the students to both excite them about their future and help guide them towards the best job opportunities.Ā Ā We have been meeting monthly since then to form the Mecklenburg Area Joint STEM Society and are pleased to formally introduce the collaborative program to our membership at large.Ā Ā In addition to serving as a ready source of highly motivated and talented volunteers, we can also serve as ambassadors for our national societies who have a wealth of STEM related programs we can offer.
