Help Guide: Sharing Files, Photos, Videos & Embedding Videos 

Please follow the instructions below to upload and share a photo, file or video within SME Connect. You can also embed videos. Note: These instructions are also available to download in PDF format.

SHARING FILES

1. Navigate to the community group you want to share your file with.
2. Select “Files” in the community’s navigation menu.
3. Use the drag and drop your files feature or click “browse” to upload from your computer or mobile device. 
4. To add an existing file from your file content area, click on the file to select it. The file will then be uploaded to the community’s file gallery (note the existing title and description, etc. are automatically included).
5. To upload a new file, select “browse” and navigate to your desired file on your computer or device. Select the file and the upload will commence.
6. Once uploaded, choose whether you also want to share your file in the site-wide gallery (i.e., make it publicly visible and accessible).
7. Give the file a title and a short description to explain what’s contained within the file.
8. Add any relevant keyword tags to aid searching and content curation.
9. Select “POST” to add your file to the community’s file gallery.

SHARING PHOTOS

To share an image or photo in the community:

1. Navigate to the community you want to share your photo with.
2. Select “Photos” in the community’s navigation menu.
3. Select the “Add Photos” button on the page to open the upload window.
4. Choose from one of your existing uploads or upload a new photo from your computer or device.
   • To add an existing image from your photo content area, click on the image to select it. The image will then be uploaded to the community’s photo gallery (note the existing title and description etc are automatically included)
   • To upload a new image, select “Choose File” and navigate to your desired image on your computer or device. Select the image and then upload will commence.
5. Once uploaded choose whether you also want to share your image in the site-wide gallery (i.e., make it publicly visible and accessible) or make it your profile picture.
6. Give the image a title and a short description to explain what the image depicts and any other information such as why it was taken, and the names of any prominent people within the photo.
7. Add any relevant keyword tags to aid searching and content curation.
8. Select “POST” to add your image to the community’s photo gallery.

SHARING VIDEOS

There are two ways to share videos with your community. Either by uploading a video file you have on your computer or device or embedding a video. Supported embed domains: youtube.com; youtube-nocookie.com; player.vimeo.com, slideshare.net; players.brightcove.net; dailymotion.com; calendar.google.com; giphy.com; max 2048 characters.

To upload your own video in the community:

1. Navigate to the community group you want to share your video with
2. Select “Videos” in the community’s navigation menu.
3. Select the “Video” button on the page to open the upload window.
4. You can select from one of your existing video uploads or upload new videos from your computer or device. 
   • To add an existing video from your video content area, click on the video to select it. It will then be uploaded to the community’s video gallery (note the existing title and description, etc. are automatically included).
   • To upload a new video, select “Choose File” and navigate to your desired video on your computer or device. Select the video and then upload will commence.
5. Once uploaded choose whether you also want to share your video in the site-wide gallery (i.e., make it publicly visible).
6. Give the video a title and a short description to explain what is contained within it.
7. Add any relevant keyword tags in order to aid searching and content curation.
8. Select "update" to add your video to the community’s video gallery.

EMBEDDING VIDEOS

1. Select the “Video” button to open the upload window.
2. Within the upload window select the “Embed Video” tab.
3. Paste the embed code copied from your source website.
4. (Note: only videos from youtube.com; youtube-nocookie.com; player.vimeo.com, slideshare.net; players.brightcove.net; dailymotion.com; calendar.google.com; giphy.com can be embedded).
5. Select “EMBED.”
6. Choose whether to share in the site-wide video gallery.
7. Add a title and a description.
8. Add any relevant keyword tags to aid searching and content curation.
9. Select “POST” to add your video.
10. Your video will display in the group’s video gallery

Note: If you’re unable to add files, photo or video content to a group, it may be that the group does not permit content from group members to be uploaded. Please contact the SME Connect Community Manager at smeconnect@sme.org for assistance.
