Privacy settings
SME Connect is an “owned” community designed for member-to-member interaction. After joining/renewing, SME members automatically gain access to the site. Some areas of SME Connect are open to the public on a “view-only” basis (i.e., chapter sites, open communities, etc.), while most of the site is only visible/accessible to members. Taking some simple steps will ensure only those you want can see the information you’re sharing.
Note: Nonmembers will be prompted to join SME if they attempt to access a members-only area.
YOUR PRIVACY SETTINGS
As an SME member, you can manage your privacy settings to manage your accessibility and the visibility of your information. Visit the Privacy tab in the
My Account area to update and/or edit your privacy settings.
Use privacy settings to control who can contact you and what information about you is viewable to other members. You can choose Connection Only to keep unwanted messages from your inbox.
The options available for your Privacy Settings are:
- Connections Only — Allows you to only show your selected profile information to members you’re connected
- Everybody — Selecting everybody allows anyone to view information
- Nobody — Your information is visible to only you and the community admin
Note: Your profile page is not visible to the public, i.e., only logged-in SME members can view your member profile; nonmembers only have access to their SME.org user profile and cannot create a profile on SME Connect.
