Entertaining Your Kids After A Long Online Teaching Session

Published

You want your kids to stay busy with entertaining and rewarding activities in their free time after they’ve spent time on their lessons. These activities should be something they look forward to, such as watching a movie, going on a nature walk, playing games, engaging in sensory play or listening to a podcast. You don’t have to spend too much money on kid-friendly toys and diversions. Here are a few ideas that will help to keep them busy.

Watch a movie

Watching Netflix can be fine if you have input in what you allow your kids to watch. Turn on parental controls so they can’t watch shows that aren’t kid-friendly.

Netflix recently announced that it would be sending parents emails to let them know what their kids have been watching and include suggestions and recommendations based on their kids’ viewing history. There will also be tips on how to use parental controls. Netflix offers a range of safety precautions for younger viewers, like kids’ profiles and profile locks.

Errorwise can help you if you experience a Netflix HTP-998 error which usually occurs when you try to stream the content that is on the server, but there is an issue on your device, network, or the server itself. It has created a list of solutions to help you if you want to fix the problem yourself.

Go on a nature walk

When your kids have cabin fever, planning a nature walk at a nearby park can keep their minds and bodies busy. You can make the activity last longer by giving them a goal to achieve, like planning a nature scavenger hunt for certain objects or getting them to collect items like pinecones for a craft project.

A creative idea is to color in the bottom of each section of an egg carton using a different color and then going outside to fill the sections with items the kids can find in that color.

Play games

Playing video games is often regarded by parents as an unsuitable way to spend leisure time but there are a number of known advantages of gaming. Gaming can provide great entertainment for kids and you can always join in when time allows. As with most other activities, it is all about moderation.

Allowing them to play for a specific amount of time as a reward for studying can be an effective motivator. Don’t forget about offline board games, too, as they are the ultimate low-tech entertainment option and have stood the test of time.

Sensory play

Sensory play is great for younger kids. Items like rice, play dough, water beads or bubble wrap can keep them entertained for hours. You can use a big ball of twine your kids can use to make spider webs or let them play with rice in a large storage container.

You can use just about any common household item that’s safe for kids to play with and allow them to interact with the items in any way they want. Sensory play is an important part of early childhood development.

Listen to a podcast

Podcasts aren’t reserved for adults alone. There are many podcasts suitable for kids today, such as serial stories or ones that answer common questions posed by kids like “Why is the sky blue?” There are also fantasies full of dragons, unicorns and magical forests.

Kids from the age of five to teens will find podcasts to entertain them. There are also podcasts talking about popular kids’ books and sharing recommendations. Some podcasts offer a perfect way to lull kids off to sleep with kid-friendly stories read by soothing narrators.
