Congratulations Prof. Solomon Boakye-Yiadom, Assistant Professor, York University, Toronto!

Dr. Solomon Boakye-Yiadom is a recipient of the SME President’s Award for his contribution to the manufacturing community of Toronto. Dr. Solomon is an Assistant Professor at York University, Toronto, where he is preparing tomorrow’s engineers for the manufacturing sector. Prof. Solomon is also the faculty advisor of the SME student chapter S392 at York University, and actively involved in engaging students and professionals with local manufacturing industries. 

Professor Solomon contribution to the manufacturing sector include training students and advocating local industries. He teaches a manufacturing and design program to engineering students at York University, where he is immensely involved in developing curriculum of renaissance courses. The renaissance courses are unique and provide hands-on experience to his class on traditional as well as advanced manufacturing technologies e.g. 3D printing as per Professor Solomon. Further, he offers interactive sessions to his class with industry experts to better prepare students career in the manufacturing sector. The professor also actively collaborates and engages with activities of SME Toronto Chapter 26 and Women in 3D Printing professional communities. Prof. Solomon's involvement in organizing tours to industries, advanced manufacturing labs, and technical presentations is valued and encouraged by the manufacturing community. Participation in one of such whole-day events at Waterloo was attended by students from undergraduate and post-graduate programs and was praised by all of the participants (pictures) and members of the professional communities, the chair of SME Toronto, Madhukar Somireddy notes that. Further, a senior member of SME community Vesna Cota mentions that Dr. Solomon collaboration with the SME Toronto chapter 26 is invaluable. 

Prof. Solomon is also the founding director of MATAM (Microstructural Tailoring of Advanced Materials) research laboratory, where he is leading a research team working on advanced materials and manufacturing technologies. The professor is actively involved in advocating and promoting local manufacturing and helping local industries. He is also very interested in helping professional and student manufacturing communities.  Professor Solomon is being recognized by the SME Toronto Chapter 26 with the SME President’s Award for his continuous support and contribution to students and local industries. SME Toronto Chapter team congratulates Prof. Solomon and looks forward to his continuous involvement teaching, encouraging and guiding our researchers and workforce of tomorrow.
